Privacy Policy

Clearfed is a food and macro tracker. This policy explains what information the app uses, where it goes, and the choices you have. The short version: your information is used to run the app for you, it is never sold, there are no ads or tracking, and you can delete all of it at any time.

What the app stores

To build your plan and score your days, Clearfed stores what you enter: your first name, birth year, sex, height, weight and waist measurements, an optional body fat range, whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding, how active you are and how often you train, your goal, your eating style or your own macro split, and how dairy sits with you.

As you use it, the app also stores your food log, training days, daily habits if you turn them on (morning sun, sleep, and when you stopped eating), saved meals and recipes, foods you add or scan, foods you choose to avoid, and your reminder settings.

Some of this is health information. It is used only to calculate your targets, scores and suggestions inside the app.

Where it is kept

Without an account, everything stays on your phone and nothing is sent to us.

If you create an account, your email address and a copy of the information above are stored with Supabase, the database company that runs our backend, so you can restore it on a new phone. Your password is handled by Supabase and is never visible to us. Each account can only read and change its own data.

Progress photos are saved only in the app's own folder on your phone. They are never uploaded, including when you have an account.

If you also use our Clearlift workout app with the same account, Clearlift can read a daily summary from Clearfed (calories, protein, their targets, training and sleep check marks, and your weight entries) to coach your training, and Clearfed reads your recent Clearlift workouts and each lift's best sets to show your activity and strength graph. This stays inside your own account. Nothing is shared with anyone else.

Anonymous research data (optional)

If you are 18 or older, you can choose to share anonymous daily totals to help us improve Clearfed and understand what helps people. It is off unless you turn it on, at sign up or in Settings, Privacy.

Each finished day sends: your age range (like 25 to 34), sex, goal, eating style, calorie and protein targets, the calories, protein, fat, carbs, fiber and added sugar you logged, your score and its parts, the share of calories from each food grade, how many meals and foods you logged, and whether you trained or weighed in that day.

It never includes your name, email, account, exact age or birth year, weight, photos, or the foods you ate. It is tied only to a random code made on your phone, so we can't tell who it came from. Turning sharing off deletes everything sent from that phone. We may publish or use summaries made from many people's data, but never data about one person, and we never sell it.

Services the app talks to

Barcode lookups: when you scan a barcode, the barcode number is sent to Open Food Facts, a free public food database, and if needed to the USDA FoodData Central database. Nothing else about you is sent.

Food search: when you search for branded foods, the words you type are sent to USDA FoodData Central. Nothing else about you is sent.

App updates: Clearfed checks Expo's servers for app updates. Expo receives standard technical details such as the app version and device platform.

Password reset: if you ask for a password reset, your email address is used to send you a code through our email provider.

Like any website or server, these services can see your device's internet address when the app connects to them.

What we do not do

We do not sell your information or share it for advertising. The app has no ads, no third party analytics, and does not track you across other apps or websites. We don't use your health information to market to you.

Notifications

Reminders are scheduled on your phone and are only sent if you turn them on. You can change or turn them off in Settings, or in your iPhone's notification settings.

Keeping or deleting your information

Your information is kept until you delete it. You can see and change almost everything in the app.

Settings, Delete account permanently removes your account, your backup, and everything stored on your phone. Copies in our provider's routine backups are removed on their normal schedule. Signing out without an account erases the data on that phone.

You can also email us to ask for a copy of your information or to have it deleted.

Security

Information is sent over encrypted connections, and the database only lets a signed in account reach its own data. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a password you don't use anywhere else.

Children

Clearfed is not meant for children under 13, and the app does not allow a birth year under 13. Teens aged 13 to 17 should use the app with a parent or guardian's permission. For them, calories are kept at maintenance and no weight loss deficit is set. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or get a copy of your information, and to object to how it is used. You can do most of this in the app, or email us and we will respond within 30 days.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. If a change affects how your information is used in a meaningful way, the app will let you know.
